Dr.Spencer GarlickDoctor of Optometry
Dr. Garlick is originally from Utah but fell in love with the Northwest while attending optometry school in Oregon. After completing undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University with a degree in Italian, he earned his Doctor of Optometry from the distinguished College of Optometry at Pacific University. As part of his clinical training he completed rotations in pediatric optometry, contact lenses, ocular disease, and low vision at locations such as Washington School for the Blind, Salt Lake VA Hospital, and David Grant USAF Medical Center. While studying at Pacific University, he also worked as a clinical interpreter for Spanish speaking patients at The Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center.
Providing the best possible care for his patients is the goal that Dr. Garlick hopes to achieve. His motto is 'Always do what is best for the patient'. He enjoys meeting with and helping people from a variety of ages and walks of life. His objective is to help them experience the world around them with the best possible ocular health and sight. He also enjoys using the latest technologies to care for his patients in the best possible way.
In addition to seeing patients to monitor and improve vision and general ocular health, Dr. Garlick is specialized in treating patients with low vision. He trained under low-vision specialist Dr. Erick Hartman for five years, and he is now one of the few optometrists in the Greater Seattle area who is qualified to treat patients with low vision.
As an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Optometric Physicians of Washington, Dr. Garlick has served as the president of The Pierce County Optometric Society. He has also volunteered in a variety of community outreach programs such as Special Olympics, and Amen Tacoma.
In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, cooking, sports, anything Italian, spending time outdoors, and especially spending time with his family. He and his wife, Anna, are the proud parents of three children.
Dr.Erick HartmanDoctor of Optometry
Dr. Hartman was born and raised in Tacoma, WA and has served Tacoma and its surrounding cities for his entire life. He started his career in 1980 after getting his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry and opened Family EyeCare Associates immediately following a year-long residency at the American Lake VA Medical Center.
He has enjoyed lecturing locally as well as nationally on the subjects of vision, visual impairments and their treatments. Dr. Hartman has also enjoyed the opportunity to 'give back' throughout his career, having served as the Washington State Clinical Director for the Special Olympics vision screening program, 'Opening Eyes', from 2002 to 2018. In 2017, he helped to establish an eye clinic in Belaire, Honduras. He serves on the board of Projecto Honduras, a non-profit organization based in Federal Way, WA, that continues to support that clinic.
Dr. Hartman retired from private practice in October 2016. However, he continues to support Dr. Garlick by filling in occasionally when he is out of the office. It is fun to visit and reconnect with old friends while performing the service he loves!
He and his wife, Tracie, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in May 2018. They have four wonderful children and 7 ½ grandchildren!
I recently joined this amazing team at Family EyeCare Associates and very quickly realized that whether you’re a member of the staff or one of the many, happy patients that walk through the door, you truly are treated like family. My job here (if you can call it that – I love what I do!) is working in the back office figuring out how to help you get the maximum benefit from your insurance coverage. It can be a frustrating task, but also quite a victory when we finally obtain the coverage you have been paying for. I have been in the eyecare field for 7+ years, and am familiar with most eyecare related insurance companies. And, while you may not see my face at each appointment, know that I am working behind the scenes to help make your patient experience a great one!
In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking, jet skiing, camping, spending time with friends & family and cheering on the Seahawks! Go Hawks!
I've been in the eye care field for 20+ years. I've worked both in ophthalmology as a tech and optometry as an optician. I'm able to educate patients in eye health while providing them with the proper eyewear for their individual needs. My job as an optician is very rewarding. I love to see the joy on patients' faces as they put on their new glasses!
When I'm not at work I'm busy with family and friends. I enjoy cycling, long walks, camping, hiking, a good book and movies. Along with some football or baseball. Go Seahawks!!! Go Mariners!!
I have been in the optical field for over five years. The reason I decided to pursue this career is because I can help patients not only have great vision, but great style! Part of my work is helping patients select the best frame style and lens add-ons to suit their needs and budgets. I also inspect glasses to ensure it meets our high standards. It makes me so happy knowing that I can help patients have the best vision possible. That is always my goal. 'If you're happy, I'm happy!' One of my favorite parts of my job is when I have the opportunity to work with children and Spanish speaking patients. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, so I am fluent in English and Spanish.
When I'm not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, singing, and watching baseball games.
I have worked as a technician in the eye care industry for 10+ years. I love this work as I get to interact one-on-one with patients every day. The tasks I perform may be the same, but every patient is a person with a unique story and I am grateful to be a part of a team truly dedicated to the patient and their visual needs.
When not at work, I am usually tending my garden, experimenting with new recipes, or exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
I have been in the healthcare field for 11 years, five of which have been in the world of eye care. I have been a technician at Family EyeCare Associates since 2016 where my job is to get patients ready to see Dr. Garlick. But you may see me at other parts of the office as I am learning some of the optical portion of optometry as well. The most rewarding part of my job is meeting all of our wonderful patients and getting to know you and your families.
When I am not with my 'work family,' I am either at home with my husband and three boys or busy being a baseball mom.
The healthcare field has been an important part of my life since I was 14 when I began working in my Dad's chiropractic office. I have been the billing coordinator at Family EyeCare Associates since early 2017 and have loved every minute of it! As billing coordinator, my goal is to make sure patients fully understand their medical and vision benefits and to ensure that patients receive balance statements for services in a timely manner. I am always willing to work with patients who find themselves in difficult circumstances. If you have any questions about insurance or benefits, call and ask for me anytime!
When I'm not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, cooking, playing the piano, and reading.
